Attraction’s of Iran

Takht-e Jamshid” or “Persepolis” is the local name of the capital of Achaemenid empire, which in terms of vastity, glory and grandeur is the main ancient treasury remained from this era in Iran. Persepolis is located 57 KM away from Shiraz and it is actually a part of Marvdasht city. This artifact has been constructed in the mountain range of "Rahmat" which means "mercy" in Persian.

 

 

 The construction process of Persepolis began in 512 BC under the command of Darius, the great and then

 

 

continued by his successors Xerxes the Great (Khashayarsha) and Artaxerxes I (Ardeshir- the first). Its construction lasted approximately 120 years. ( 5 star hotels in iran )

This precious complex is composed of these major parts:

- Official and ceremonial palaces

- Small private palaces

- Royal treasury

- Protective castles and walls

 “Apadana” is the oldest palace of Persepolis. This palace was built by Darius, the great command and it was used for holding New Year celebrations and accepting representatives from affiliated countries.

“Tachara” which means winter house is also attributed to Darius and it was his private palace.

“Hadish” that means a high place had been the name of Xerxes palace which was built on the highest southern part of Persepolis. Xerxes named his palace “Hadish” as it was his wife name too.

In addition to the palaces listed here, there were some other palaces and buildings too.

Unfortunately in years after, Alexander, a Greek general officer assailed to Iran in 330 BC and burned this glorious place. However, the ruins of the royal kingdom of Darius is still one of the most attractive places at Fars province which attracts lots of foreign and domestic tourists annually to this district and UNESCO has registered the name of Persepolis amongst the world heritage sites from 1979.

This iconic stew, an essential part of every Persian wedding menu, pairs tart pomegranate with chicken or duck. Ground walnuts, pomegranate paste and onions are slowly simmered to make a thick sauce. Sometimes saffron and cinnamon are added, and maybe a pinch of sugar to balance the acid. Fesenjan has a long pedigree. At the ruins of Persepolis, the ancient ritual capital of the Persian Empire, archaeologists found inscribed stone tablets from as far back as 515 B.C., which listed pantry staples of the early Iranians. This stew has the shimmering red-gold color of tomatoes cooked with turmeric, with a sheen of oil on top, a prized characteristic in Persian cooking that shows a stew has been cooked long enough for the oils to rise up. Slightly tart, with the tang of tomatoes, lemon juice, and sometimes the juice of unripe grapes, its tanginess is kept in check by the eggplant, which is first fried on its own until golden-brown, then cooked with onions, lamb and the tomatoes and seasoning. In Iranian cooking, rice can be prepared simply with butter and saffron, known as chelo. But just as often, it’s cooked with other ingredients and called polo. Polo can be made with herbs, vegetables, beans, nuts, dried fruit, meat and even noodles, and acts as the centerpiece of the meal. This polo is particularly good in the spring, when fava beans are young and tender and dill is in season. The dish is flecked with green dill and favas, and is often cooked with very tender chunks of lamb. Alternately, it may be served alongside lamb on the bone. Chaharshanbeh Soori

If Navroz is the Persian equivalent of Easter, Chaharshanbeh Souri, in many ways is the equivalent of Halloween. The event is celebrated on the eve of Navroz.

Chahar-Shanbeh means Wednesday and Souri means both 'Red' and 'Celebration'. In this “red celebration” which takes place on the last Wednesday of the solar calendar, people go out and make bush fires and keep them burning till the next morning. Tirgan Festival

Tirgan is celebrated by people in the Mazandaran province on the evening of the twelfth day of the fourth month of their own calendar. Tirgan is a celebration born out of the legend of Arash, the legendary bowman who shot an arrow to indicate the borderline between Iran and Turan but died soon after, drained of all his energy. People come together to eat traditional Iranian food, drink lots of sherbets and tea and participate in drama, reciting poetry and singing (Tehran Hotel)

 

Mehregan Celebration

Mehr is the name of the Sun Goddess and the seventh month of the Iranian calendar. The Mehrgan festival celebrated by the Zoroastrian people of Kerman is an occasion to celebrate harvest by sacrificing a sheep or chicken and feasting on it. (hotel Tehran)

 

Yalda (Chelleh)

Celebrated on the 21st or 22nd of September, the Yalda festival celebrates the longest night of the year, at the end of which light triumphs over darkness.
